Norton credits forces with reduced fires

MONDAY, AUGUST 13, 2001 Secretary of Interior Gale Norton on Sunday praised the addition of addition of 1,800 new firefighters with reducing the number of acres burned nationwide. Compared to last year, Norton said there have been 60 percent fewer fires burned so far this summer. She will sign a 10-year plan with state governors today at the Western Governors' Association, which is being held in Idaho this week. Get the Story:
