The Alaska Native village of Chalkyitsik has been testing out a new state permit system that tries to accomodate traditional hunting practices.

The program allows individual bag limits to be pooled into a community one. This is aimed at letting a few hunters provide food for the entire village, which is traditionally done.

The results of the one-year program have been mixed, said a resident.
