MAY 17, 2000 An agreement has been reached in the Big Horn water rights case. The agreement settles a long running dispute between the Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho tribes of Wyoming, the federal government, the state of Wyoming, seven individuals, and the Midvale Irrigation District over water rights on allotted and fee lands on the Wind River reservation. Water rights were reserved by the creation of the reservation with an 1868 treaty. Objections to the agreement must be filed in Washakie County by June 15.
