Tribe's nuclear project protested

APRIL 27, 2001 A group of protesters held a rally in Salt Lake City on Thursday to express their opposition to a proposal to store nuclear waste on the Skull Valley Goshute Reservation in Utah. The tribe has signed a lease agreement with Private Fuel Storage (PFS) to store high-level nuclear waste on its 18,000-acre reservation in northwestern Utah. The federal government has to approve the facility. A number of state politicans, including Governor Mike Leavitt, oppose the facility. The state enacted a number of laws aimed at stopping it, to which the tribe and its partners filed suit. Get the Story:
