Bush backs environmental rules

APRIL 18, 2001 The Bush administration on Tuesday said it will uphold an environmental reporting rule finalized in the last month of the Clinton administration. The Environmental Protection Agency will move forward with the rules which require manufacturing and processing plants to report emission of lead or lead compounds. The rules are stricter than previous standards, requiring companies to report emissions which total 100 pounds or more a year rather than 10,000 pounds. Industry groups oppose the rules. The National Federation of Independent Businesses plans a lawsuit. Get the Story:
