FEBRUARY 26, 2001

Senator Frank Murkowski (R-Alaska) today plans on introducing legislation opening up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge for oil development.

The bill is supported by a number of Republican Senators. A similar bill was introduced last year but failed.

The Bush administration believes it can develop the refuge without harming the environment.
