Ute water project passes Congress

DECEMBER 18, 2000 Funding for the $450 million Animas-LaPlata project was approved by Congress on Friday, but opponents vow to continue fighting the project. The A-LP dam and diversion project was first authorized in 1968. Since then, it has undergone several delays and downsizing and was eventually changed to incorporated the water rights settlement of Colorado Ute Tribes. Opponents say the project doesn't really benefit the tribes. Get the Story:
