DECEMBER 1, 2000 A plan to buy hydroelectric power from a plant in Manitoba, Canada, was approved on Thursday by Minnesota officials. The power plant has been criticized for its effects on the Pimicikamak Cree First Nation. Human rights and religious leaders have called on the state to stop purchasing power from Manitoba Hydro. An American company, Xcel Energy, contracts with Manitoba Hydro to provide the power to consumers in Minnesota. Get the Story:
