WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 30, 2002 A retired Army colonel's quest to find out what happened to a group of Confederate soldiers in Kansas led him to uncover the history of the Rebel Creek Massacre. As Bob Dalton discovered, the soldiers went to Kansas in May 1863 to try and convince Osage warriors to launch an attack on Union forces. They pretended they were Union scouts. But the skeptical pro-Union warriors knew better than to believe the claims. That led to skirmishes in which one Osage and all but two of the 18 Confederates were killed. Get the Story:
