The Minnesota Indian Affairs Council has asked the University of Minnesota not to get involved in a telescope project located at an Arizona site considered sacred to a number of tribes

The council, made up of 11 tribal leaders, said the school should refuse a share in the Mount Graham telescope. The school received $5 million from Hubbard Broadcasting Inc. to get involved.

Tribes in the southwest consider Mount Graham sacred and have battled the University of Arizona over the observatory.
