SEPTEMBER 7, 2000 A proposal to make English the official language of Oklahoma, itself a Choctaw word, may not be an issue in the upcoming ballot due to a deadline imposed on fall ballot questions. Tribal leaders in the state have banded together to oppose the proposal, which would require all state business and documents to be in English only. Governor Frank Keating has also opposed the question. Another controversional issue, cockfighting, might also not appear. Get the Story:
