The Washington High School Board on Monday voted to keep the school's "Warrior" mascot but to get rid of paintings of an Indian head at its Sioux Fall gym.

To broaden the connotation of "warrior" beyond Indians, the school will replace the paintings with murals depicting state history -- both tribal and non-tribal. Local artist Tammy deGruchy will create the murals.
