Pueblo artifacts kept in poor condition

WEDNESDAY, JULY 25, 2001 The National Park Service keeps Pueblo artifacts in such poor condition that workers have fallen ill while working among the collection of 3 million documents, photographs and items located in a warehouse at Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado. The Park Service links the illnesses of at least three workers to the presence of stachybotrys, a type of mold, in the 5,104-square-foot shed. Low levels of the mold were detected earlier this month so the Park Service shut down the Mesa Verde Research Center for about 20 days. A second test was conducted last week, which showed no levels of the mold. Workers returned on Monday. Get the Story:
