JULY 19, 2000

Several Mille Lacs tribal members have opened the Ojibwe Language Immersion Grounds in Rutland, Minnesota. The center will hold classes in Ojibwe as well as Ojibwe culture.

Sponsored by the tribe, the center will hold a three-day beginner's session and a five-day advanced workshop. The effort is part of a resurgence in culture on the reservation and an attempt to prevent the Ojibwe language from dying out.
