The remains of 600 American Indians whose graves were dug up in a field in West Virginia are being sought by local residents who want them reburied.

The residents of Buffalo are seeking their return under the Native American Graves and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) of 1990 by asking tribes who have historic ties to the area to help. The Eastern Band of Cherokee Tribe in North Carolina and the Shawnee of Oklahoma have supported the reburial.

The remains are being held at Ohio State University.
