School wants to keep mascot

NOVEMBER 22, 2000 The Kewaunee High School in Kewaunee, Wisconsin, will keep its Indian nickname and mascot but will develop guidelines on their uses under a preliminary policy adopted on Monday night. The guidelines would try to prevent reinforcing stereotypes or infringing on religious beliefs. They include not using the mascot during graduation ceremonies and other celebrations. The policy was approved 6-1. It requires final approval before it can be enacted. Get the Story:
