Education conference kicks off in Mont.

MONDAY, OCTOBER 29, 2001 The National Indian Education Association's 32 annual conference began on Sunday in Billings, Montana. A pow-wow on Saturday welcomed attendees to the conference, whose theme is "Connecting to the Spirit of Traditional Wisdom." Secretary of Interior Gale Norton, whose budget calls for fixing crumbling tribal schools, gave the keynote, which was received well by some and questioned by others. The confernce continues until Wednesday. About 3,000 are expected to attend. Get the Story:
