Some Indians in Gallup resent Arab merchants

FRIDAY, JULY 18, 2003 Some Native American artisans in Gallup, New Mexico, are trying to organize a boycott against Arab merchants whom they accuse of being too rude and flooding the market with fakes. Of the 60 jewelry and pawn shops in town, about a quarter are own by Arabs, The New York Times reports. That makes it hard for Native artists to avoid doing business with them, particularly when they need the money. Gallup is located near the Navajo Nation and the Zuni Reservation. Get the Story:
