TUESDAY, JULY 8, 2003 The Daily Oklahoman in an editorial welcomes the reopening of the Comanche Nation Water Park. The paper recounts some of the venture's troubled history. First opened by the Kiowa, Comanche and Apache tribes, the paper says it faltered due to "mismanagement and financial problems." "The three tribes had to dip into a trust fund account they shared to pay off vendors, some who complained that they weren't paid in full," the paper says. "Also, in 1995, the director of the joint tribal land use committee that opened the park pleaded guilty in federal court to embezzling funds from the committee." Maybe all is well now, the paper opines. "We hope to see nothing but sunshine and fun for the park that has seen its share of storms," the paper says. "The government shouldn't have to bail out failed tribal ventures." Get the Story:
