Wis. budget overrides Oneida Nation tax agreement

THURSDAY, JULY 3, 2003 A budget provision in the new Wisconsin budget overrides the revenue-sharing provisions of the Oneida Nation's tax agreement. Under a 1988 agreement, the tribe keeps 70 percent of all cigarette taxes. The Republican-controlled Legislature diminishes the amount to just 30 percent. The tribe is asking Gov. Jim Doyle (D) to veto the provision. Get the Story:
