Research published in today's issue of Nature reports on the discovery of 160,000-year-old remains believed to be the direct ancestors of modern humans.

A team of international researchers found the remains of two adults and a child in Ethiopia. The remains are about 60,000 years older than the oldest previously known human ancestors.

The researchers say the find is proof that all modern humans originated in Africa, disputing theories that humans also evolved in Europe and Asia.
