TUESDAY, MAY 13, 2003 The North Carolina Indian Cultural Center is in danger of being closed due to lack of funds and other problems. Center officials have been forced to sell of 45 acres of land to cover debts. There has never been an audit of the center's finances, despite having received numerous funds over the years. The center is currently used as a recreational site. Plans call for a welcome center, a small museum, walking trails and a system of villages. The center is located in traditional Lumbee territory.
