N.M. gaming appointee faces action over work history

THURSDAY, APRIL 24, 2003 An investigation into one of New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson's gaming appointees could result in his termination, The Albuquerque Journal reports. Rafael Gutierrez is the Gaming Control Board's liaison to tribal casinos. He is under investigation for omitting key facts about his work history, including his service for a company that was supplying casino machines to a tribe that was operating a casino in California illegally. The board's policy forbids employment of a person who knowingly omitted information in a disclosure statement, or a person who has "exhibited a history of willful disregard" for gaming laws, the Journal reported. Gutierrez was a former president of the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, owned by New Mexico's 19 Pueblo tribes. Get the Story:
