Calif. county seeks to tax tribe's casino

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 17, 2003 A California county is asserting the authority to tax a casino owned by the Chukchansi Tribe. The casino is located within the boundaries of the 80-acre Picayune Rancheria. But county officials say the 20-acre parcel is not held in trust but in fee status. The property tax bill on the casino could be $1.5 million a year, according to The Fresno Bee. Get the Story:
