Editorial: Aquash murder deserves attention
THURSDAY, JANUARY 30, 2003 There are many questions that need to be answered about the unsolved murder of American Indian Movement activist Anna Mae Pictou-Aquash, The Sioux Falls Argus Leader says in an editorial. The paper points to a recent grand jury that was called to hear testimony about the 1976 incident. Citing the manner in which Aquash died -- she was shot in the head, something that was somehow overlooked in the first autopsy -- the paper says resolution is needed. "We all would like to know the truth," the paper writes. "But unless there's new information before the grand jury, this likely will be just another exercise in futility. That's too bad."
