Teens held for reservation murder

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 19, 2002 Two teens are being held by authorities in Washington state for the murder of a man on the Spokane Reservation and the attempted murder of his wife. Joel J. Abrahamson, 16, is being transferred to federal court because he is member of the Kalispel Tribe. The federal government has jurisdiction over major crimes involving Indian offenders on Indian land, where the alleged crime occurred. Authorities are less sure about Andrew D. Garcia, 14, who is of Indian descent but not a tribal member. According to The Spokesman Review, federal prosecutors are determining whether to try him in federal court. Get the Story:
