Calif. tribes cited as threat to Nev.

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 12, 2002 Attendees of a state governor's conference were warned about the growing Indian gaming industry on Wednesday. A gaming expert told the 19th annual Governor’s Conference on Tourism that California tribal casinos make $5 billion a year. Nevada's casinos currently bring in $10 billion. "California Indian gaming likely will grow to exceed Nevada in the next 10 years," Bill Eadington of the University of Nevada said, according to the Associated Press. A casino executive said fighting the growth of Indian gaming is "futile." James Baum, director of development for Harrah’s Entertainment Inc., suggested the casino industry develop partnerships with tribes. Get the Story:
