WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 27, 2002 Members of the Confederated Umatilla Tribes of Oregon will host a special Thanksgiving Day feast to give thanks to the creator. Elder Bill Burke is inviting the public to sit down at the long house in Mission, Oregon. "We are not coming together to celebrate the Thanksgiving Day of post-colonialization trauma," he told The Mid Columbia Tri City Herald. "We will not be celebrating the time when white people began making laws to take away the Indian rights and lands from them. Why would we celebrate Thanksgiving in the traditional fifth-grade way?"
