The Seneca-Cayuga Tribe of Oklahoma is backed by a wealthy mall developer who purchased 229 acres in upstate New York for what could be a new casino development.

Thomas Wilmot was also behind the Miami Nation's failed land claim in Illinois. He financed the suit, which was eventually withdrawn.

Wilmot has also funded the federal recognition petition for the Golden Hill Paugussett Tribe of Connecticut. A decision is expected by early January.

The Seneca-Cayuga Tribe is made up of descendants of the Seneca and Cayuga nations, both of which are indigenous to New York.
