Norton misunderstood court order

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 2002 Attorneys for Secretary of Interior Gale Norton were in federal court last week trying to convince a judge why she should not be held in contempt. U.S. District Judge Emmett Sullivan ordered Norton to publish a final list of manatee protection zones by November 1. But the list didn't appear in the Federal Register until November 7. According to Scripps Howard News Service, government attorneys said the department misunderstood the order and thought the list didn't have to appear by the earlier date. Get the Story:
