New England states take on gaming

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 18, 2002 Gaming is the new something in New England states, several of which are either expanding gaming or considering it. New York is moving quickly to establish six Indian casinos that were authorized in the wake of September 11. The Seneca Nation of New York plans to open one facility by early next year. Things are less certain in Connecticut, where opposition to new gaming reaches to the highest levels of the state government. Only one tribe, the Eastern Pequot Tribe, has the potential to open a casino any time soon. In Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Maine, gaming is also on the agenda. Only New Hampshire appears left out of the race. Get the Story:
