Protest held against Yosemite dig

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 29, 2002 Some members of the Southern Sierra Mewuk Tribe of California are protesting plans for a cultural center at Yosemite National Park. The center is part of a 15-year, $441 million plan to restore Yosemite Valley. The National Park Service has involved the tribe in the management of the park. Some members, however, feel the center will harm burial grounds and other sites. A reported 20 people showed up at the park on Sunday to protest construction. Get the Story:
