Okla. tribe mired in housing dispute

MONDAY, AUGUST 26, 2002 Who controls housing at for the Caddo Nation of Oklahoma? As the tribe figures out the answer, housing is being denied to tribal members. The Housing Authority of the Caddo Nation is recognized by the tribe as the official housing agency. The authority works under the auspices of the 1996 Native American Housing Assistance and Self-Determination Act. But commissioners of the old the Caddo Housing Authority, formed under state law, won't give up power to 22 low-income housing units. They cite lack of accountability and a restraining order that is still in effect against the old authority. Attempts to settle haven't been fruitful. Get the Story:
