FRIDAY, AUGUST 9, 2002 Richard Saunders is getting a test run as police chief of the Tohono O'odham Nation of Arizona. Saunders, a tribal member, gets three to six months to prove he can handle law enforcement duties on lands the size of the state of Connecticut. The police force received 34,473 calls for service since January for a resident population of about 12,000 members and about 5,000 non-members. Get the Story:
