High N.Y. tax affects cigarette sales

TUESDAY, AUGUST 6, 2002 Indian and tribal businesses might be benefiting from New York City's cigarette tax, the highest in the nation. Sales of cigarettes in the city have dropped almost in half in the last month. The cost, with tax, per pack is $7.50. Consumers can buy tax-free cigarettes on reservations or on the Internet.
