Church proposed near Apache burial site

FRIDAY, JULY 12, 2002 The Fort Sill Apache Tribe of Oklahoma has raised concerns about a proposal for a Greek Orthodox monastery near the burial site of Chiricahua Apache leader Cochise. The tribal council is to consider its stance on the issue but tribe's vice chairman told The Arizona Daily Star that the plan is opposed. The tribe owns four acres in the area. The Greek church wants to erect a structure whose height exceeds local zoning requirements. Get the Story:
