The Rhode Island Senate on Tuesday passed a referendum that puts the Narragansett Tribe's casino on the November ballot.

This measure conflicts with a gaming study approved by the House. The House approved a long-term commission to gauge the effects of casinos on the state.

The House, however, has to consider the referendum bill. The tribe is hoping it will pass because the study won't be completed until next summer.

The tribe has partnered with Boyd Gaming on a casino hotel project in the town of West Warwick. The town supports the development.
