A group of elders of the Southern Ute Tribe of Colorado meets twice a month to advise the tribe on cultural and traditional matters.

The Committee of Elders was created in 1980 and works mostly with the tribal council on cultural issues and as an advocate for elders and the disabled. Of the tribe's 1,400 members, about 8.6 percent are older than 59, according to The Durango Herald.
