More Eastern Pequot Casino Letters

More views about the Eastern Pequot Tribe's proposal to build a casino in New London should they win final federal recognition and negotiate a compact with the state of Connecticut.

OUR GREAT CITY?
"City Councilor Reid Burdick, who shoots one-liners like Shaquille O'Neal shoots free throws, cautioned his peers. 'A casino would completely change the tenor of our city,' Burdick said. 'We have to be careful.'

Pray tell, what is the tenor of this city? You can't get a roll of toilet paper downtown after dark. We don't have a movie theater, a skateboard park, or a nightclub for people over 30 years old. We are not a seaport city because we aren't porting anything. We have art, but we're not an art city. . ."

NO MORE CASINOS!
"We do not need another casino in this area. Moreover, locating it at the State Pier would create havoc for the nearby Gold Star Memorial Bridge entries/exits, densely populated residential areas, cause chaos for traffic at the railroad station, the bus station, as well as various routes in and out of New London. . ."

NOT ABOUT THE CASINO, BUT...
"The recent comments by state State Rep. William Dyson (D - New Haven) regarding the distribution of any new casino impact aid to southeastern Connecticut towns neighboring Foxwoods or Mohegan Sun has reinforced my opinion that state representatives from Connecticut's larger cities such as New Haven, Bridgeport and Hartford have no intention of listening to the requests or concerns of their colleagues from the southeastern part of the state. . ."
