New Ore. governor to have casino say

The Confederated Warm Springs Tribes of Oregon might be in luck when a new governor is elected.

The tribe is pushing two projects in the Columbia Gorge. Current Gov. John Kitzhaber previously vetoed an off-reservation casino proposed on Government Rock, an island.

In response, the tribe said it wants to build a resort on the island and a casino on tribal land along a scenic trail near Hood River. But three gubernatorial candidates say they would approve of the island proposal if it meant the tribe drops the Hood River one.

The tribe is asking the Bureua of Indian Affairs to take 175 acres of land into trust adjacent to the Hood River site.
