THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 1, 2001 Isleta Pueblo in New Mexico has asked the Department of Interior to take 100,000 acres of land near a landfill into trust. The request may affect Valencia County's pending purchase of a landfill that is adjacent to the land the Pueblo is seeking. The county says it wants to make sure it has access to the landfill. The county has been fined $927,000 for not closing a landfill that was supposed to be shut down and for improperly operating a landfill.
