The head of the FBI's counterterrorism division in New York is being investigated over a lost briefcase which may have contained sensitive national security information.

According to FBI sources, John P. O'Neill momentarily left a briefcase at a hotel in Florida. It was later recovered at a different hotel within 90 minutes, with no information missing, said a source.

O'Neill is planning to retire at the end of this week.
