Where is the Pequot Map?

FEBRUARY 8, 2001

The state of Connecticut is still looking for an original version of the map delineating the boundaries of the Mashantucket Pequot Reservation as subject to a 1983 law which granted the tribe federal recognition and settled their land claims.

The tribe has a version of it in their museum. The state has a version of it in their offices. But no one knows which is the original and the National Records and Archives Administration in Washington, DC, says they can't release any potential document until 2003.

Connecticut Democrat Senators Chris Dodd and Joe Lieberman have asked the Senate Indian Affairs Committee to release all documents pertaining to the 1983 law. Representative Rob Simmons has written the National Archives for help in finding the map.
