MARCH 14, 2001

Worthnigton Foods on Tuesday issued a recall of its vegeterian corn dog products after the enviornmental activist group Greenpeace discovered they contained Starlink, a genetically engineered corn not meant for human consumption.

The federal government says that there is little health risk for eating corn containing StarLink. Nevertheless, it was never approved for human consumption due to concerns that it could cause allergic reactions in some consumers.

Worthington Foods is a subsidiary of the Kellogg Company. The recalled products include corn dogs under the names Morningstar Farms, Loma Linda and Natural Touch. Consumers may call the company toll-free at 1-877-924-4247 for more information.
