TUESDAY, AUGUST 21, 2001 Senators Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) are holding back the nomination of Environmental Protection Agency nominee Donald Schregardus. The Senators want clarification on clean air lawsuits filed during the Clinton administration that Schregardus opposed as governor of Ohio. They are also criticizing Schregardus for for being lax on programs he would be responsible for enforcing at the EPA. The Department of Justice is expected to announce its position on the lwasuits soon. They affect emissions of power plants. Donald Schregardus was cleared by the Senate Environmental and Public Works Committee earlier this month. Get the Story:
