WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 12, 2001 On a voice vote, the House on Tuesday unanimously approved federal funding to help construct the Native American Cultural Center and Museum in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The $8.25 million a year for four years, beginning in 2003, is contingent upon the project receiving twice the amount in matching funds. The Native American Cultural and Educational Authority has received donations already and wants to spend $150 million total on the center. Assistant Secretary Neal McCaleb had opposed using Bureau of Indian Affairs funds for the project. The museum will be affiliated with the Smithsonian Institution. Get the Story:
