WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 8, 2001 The Watertown School Board in South Dakota has decided to keep an invented Indian ceremony but will change certain parts of it. Known as the "Ki Yi Legend," a former teacher made up the ceremony to promote school pride. Performed by high school students, it involves two imaginary tribes who battle one another, then make peace. Critics say the ceremony is offensive and even though the school board has removed the use of feathers and Indian regalia, the Minority Resource Center and civil rights groups plan to sue.
