New name of Native Sun News announced

Effective with this issue number 25 of the Native Sun News the name of the newspaper will be changed to Native Sun News Today.

The newspaper published its first edition on April 1, 2009 and is now in its 8th year of publication. The founder of the Lakota Times which later changed its name to Indian Country Today, Tim Giago, was the founder of Native Sun News.

The newspaper was voted as the Best of the Dakotas by the South Dakota and North Dakota Newspaper Associations in 2015, a title it still holds. Native Sun News was also voted the General Excellence, the best weekly newspaper in its category, by the South Dakota Newspaper Association in 2016.

The newspaper has won numerous awards for journalism excellence and news reporting. The new name appears on the front page flag of this week’s edition.

The name may be slightly different, but the content and general excellence of the news reporting and the quality of the newspaper staff will continue. The management and staff of Native Sun News Today are proud to be named “The Best of the Dakotas” and promise to continue to serve its readers to the best of its ability.
