Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump won three more states on Tuesday as Democrats Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders split victories in two states. Trump won the GOP contests Hawaii, Michigan and Mississippi by comfortable margins. The only state he lost was Idaho, where Ted Cruz, the Senator from Texas, had the largest percentage of votes. Trump now has 458 delegates compared to 359 for Cruz, according to The New York Times. The nominee needs 1,237 to secure the GOP nomination.

On the Democratic side, Clinton easily won Mississippi. But she was defeated by Sanders in Michigan by less than two percentage points. According to the Times, Clinton has 760 delegates compared to 546 for Sanders. The Democratic nominee needs 2,3838 delegates to secure the nomination. Except for Hawaii, the Native populations in the states that held votes on Tuesday are not significant. In Michigan, however, Sanders won by large margins in counties with larger Native populations. In Mackinac County, for example, Sanders won by nearly 12 percentage points. Native Americans represent 17.4 percent of the population in the county, the largest proportion in the state. Native Americans represent 15.6 percent of the population in Chippewa County, the second largest proportion. There, Sanders won by nearly 20 percentage points. Baraga County is the only other county in Michigan with double-digit Native representation and Sanders won by 15 percentage points. Native Americans represent 13.7 percent of the population in the county. Get the Story:
