Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton secured a slew of victories on Super Tuesday, solidifying their campaigns as the ones to beat. Trump, a real estate mogul from New York, won the GOP contests in seven of 11 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Massachusetts, Tennessee, Vermont and Virginia. Rival Ted Cruz, the Senator from Texas managed wins in Alaska, Oklahoma and Texas while Marco Rubio, the Senator from Florida, finally saw his first primary victory in Minnesota. The sweep gives Trump a total of 316 delegates, according to results posted by The New York Times. Cruz is a distant second with 226 and Rubio trails with 106. A total of 1,237 delegates are needed to secure the party's nomination.

On the Democratic side, Clinton won Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Massachusetts, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia. Bernie Sanders, the Senator from Vermont, won Colorado, Minnesota, Oklahoma and Vermont. Clinton, a former Secretary of State and a former Senator from New York, has 544 while Sanders has 349. The Democratic nominee needs 2,383 delegates. Get the Story:
